Visualizing the UK 2024 Election

Here we use our election adapted 3D VR/AR component (see Visualizing an Election) to visualize the results of the 2024 UK general election, making use of the hex-map view and the radial chart.

By using two 3D components and synchronising their changes we can clearly see the astonishing difference between two elections a mere five years apart. In 2019 few pundits believed that Labour would win another election within the decade let alone see a landslide victory one election on. The Tories’ mishandling of the Covid pandemic and damaging factionalism saw them squander their huge electoral advantage, on the way getting through four leaders, one of whom was outlasted by a lettuce.

The voting boundaries have changed since 2019 so the maps are slightly different but you can see the vanishing Tory blue, this encroaching Lib-dem orange in the south-east and the surrender of lots of yellow Scottish National seat to Labour.

The tabular view shows the size of the electoral majorities for the top 100 constituencies, with the Tory blue being completely wiped out. What Tory seats were won showed a big drop in support some clinging on for dear life with tiny majorities.
